Who Can Call?

Anyone Can Call

  • Anyone, particularly a child or youth, can contact the Children’s Advocate Office if they have a concern about a child or group of children receiving services from a provincial ministry or agency.
  • Children and youth are encouraged to call on their own behalf.
  • Many parents, foster parents, social workers, health professionals and others also call on behalf of the children and youth.
  • The Children's Advocate typically receives concerns regarding Social Services, Health, Education, Justice, Corrections, Public Safety & Policing, as well as Indian Child and Family Services agencies.
  • All contacts to the Children's Advocate Office are confidential.

Children and Youth in Facilities, Group Homes or Foster Homes

  • The Ombudsman and Children's Advocate Act outlines that if a child or youth in a facility, foster home, group home or other home or place pursuant to an Act, asks to communicate with the Children's Advocate, that request shall be forwarded to the Children’s Advocate immediately by the person in charge of the facility.
  • If a child writes a letter to the Children’s Advocate the person in charge of the home/facility must forward the letter immediately, unopened, to the Children’s Advocate Office.
