What Happens When You Call?

The Intake Advocate receives the call, listens to the concerns and will:

  • Clarify the information and review the steps the caller has already taken
  • Offer information to assist the caller in advocating on his/her own behalf or the child’s behalf
  • Try to negotiate a resolution to the matters raised
  • Provide the caller with referrals to other agencies or ministries that may be able to provide assistance with their concern

If a matter remains unresolved, the concern will be forwarded to an Advocate who will try to make contact with the youth concerned. Action will usually be initiated at the request of the young person. The Advocate will:

  • Try to negotiate a resolution to the matters raised
  • Formally review and/or investigate the concern in accordance with The Ombudsman and Children’s Advocate Act if necessary

If a child is unable to provide direction to the Children's Advocate Office, an Advocate will work to ensure that the child receives all of the services to which they are entitled as outlined in provincial government legislation and policy.
